The RIBA has launched an ideas contest to design ‘aesthetically pleasing’ gantry and cantilever structures on Britain’s railways as part of UK rail network electrification programme

The competition invites architects, engineers and designers, to proposes ideas to improve the overhead structures on the UK rail network, with a particular focus on areas of the proposed HS2 line that impact ‘natural beauty, conservation areas or residential areas’.

Ten teams will be shortlisted for a second round with multi disciplinary teams encouraged.

Supported by the Department for Transport and HS2, development funding of up to £15,000 will be available to each shortlisted team.
