[Registration must be completed by 2 November] The city of Vancouver in Canada is calling for design ideas for three urban areas
Launched to find new purposes for underused areas east of the city centre, the contest focuses on three sites which each have a specific brief and prize fund.
The ‘big scale’ category focuses on finding plans for the whole eastern side of the city. These plans are expected to reflect the city’s aspiration to be ‘sustainable and innovative’.
The second category is for proposals which utilise the city’s disused motorway viaducts. The abandoned structures were built in the 1960s and never fully connected.
The final ‘wild card’ category calls for conceptual responses with entrants asked to focus on how perceptions of the area could be improved through design.
The prize funds for each category are $5,000, $3,500 and $1,500 respectively with the winners announced at an event closing the competition.
