Nottingham Trent University is seeking a design team for a new £16 million medical technology and innovation centre
Expected to complete in 2019, the project will deliver two separate facilities on the university’s Clifton and City campuses which are 8 kilometres apart.
The first element will create a new 1,800m2 research and development science building on the Clifton Campus located on the edge of the historic city.
The second involves a 1,400m2 fit out of an existing large open plan building in the city centre which will be converted into a new science commercialisation facility.
According to the brief: ‘The project is a science-led development for a new medical technology innovation facility, addressing fundamental research in which to develop platform technologies for commercialisation.’
Founded in 1992, the former polytechnic today hosts around 3,430 staff and 26,890 undergraduate and post graduate students spread across three campuses.
Historic landmarks include the Grade II*-listed Newton and Arkwright buildings which were transformed into a new social centre for the university by Hopkins Architects seven years ago.
Evans Vettori also completed a new £7 million Pavilion Building (pictured) – featuring teaching, social and exhibition spaces – on the Clifton Campus last year.
Up to six teams will be shortlisted for the contract which covers RIBA Stages 2 to 6. Documents must be requested by 10 October and the deadline for applications is 12 October.
