Masterplanner sought for Shetland business park

  • Comment

Highlands and Islands Enterprise (HIE) is looking for an architect to masterplan a food and drink manufacturing business park on Shetland

The winner of the £55,000 contract will draw up a masterplan for a 3ha development at Staney Hill overlooking the island’s largest settlement, Lerwick.

The project is expected to deliver between six and eight units, each measuring between 300m² and 1,000m², on a greenfield site next to the Staney Hill Industrial Estate.

HIE’s brief says the masterplan should ‘investigate the potential for a manufacturing business park incorporating food and drink, technology, engineering and creative Industries businesses at Staneyhill, Lerwick in Shetland

‘The recommendation is for a masterplan to be developed to enable HIE to promote the potential for the Staneyhill site, which has close proximity to local residences and Staneyhill, Blackhill and Gremista Industrial estates and is on a connecting road to the A970 Lerwick to Scalloway artery.’

Shetland’s food and drink manufacturing industry generates around £310 million of revenue each year and employs around 400 people locally, according to a feasibility study for the project drawn up by Ekos.

Bidders must have at least £10 million of employer’s liability insurance cover, £10 million of public liability insurance and £5 million worth of professional indemnity liability insurance. Site investigations will also be required.

The deadline for applications is noon, 30 November.
