Medway Council is on the hunt for an architect to masterplan the regeneration of Chatham town centre
The project will transform the Chatham Waterfront Civic Space into a new ‘central destination’ with improved connections to the surrounding area.
The area to be regenerated stretches from the River Medway and waterfront pumping station towards the bus station and Pentagon Shopping Centre.
Military Road and the High Street – which connect the waterfront to Chatham Rail Station – will also be included.
The winning team will first produce a high-level masterplan and then develop the scheme up to RIBA stage 3.
Once a contractor has been appointed the architect will continue to work as the council’s agent to ensure the works are completed in line with the RIBA stage 3 designs.
Footfall in the town centre area is expected to increase in the near future with the installation of a digital ‘big screen’ on the pumping station.
According to the tender notice: ‘The key aim of this future masterplan is to develop and integrate the area into the wider environment in order for it to become well connected, but at the same time assure its own identity as a central destination.’
The deadline for requests to participate is 15 January.
