Hunt begins for Wimbledon Park regeneration design team

  • Comment

The London Borough of Merton is seeking an architect to re-masterplan Wimbledon Park

The winning team will draw up five separate concept plans for the Capability Brown-landscaped 27 hectare green space which is next door to the world famous All England Lawn Tennis and Croquet Club.

Proposals will be expected to boost recreational, sporting, cultural and leisure opportunities while also respecting the historic park’s landscape and environment.

According to the contract notice: ‘The masterplan must be operationally achievable and affordable, seeking to create a sustainable future for the Park, whilst returning a greater surplus to the council as a return on their investment.’

The council will select three options which will be feature in a public consultation before a final vision is chosen and developed in detail.

The park currently features tennis courts, an athletics track, play areas, a water sports centre, paddling pool, bowling green, café and ornamental gardens.

The deadline for requests to participate is 12noon on 25 September.
