Hunt begins for Snow Hill public realm design team

  • Comment

Birmingham City Council is seeking a multi-disciplinary design team for an estimated £1 million overhaul of the public realm surrounding Snow Hill Station

The winning team will review options appraisals contained in the district’s emerging £600 million regeneration masterplan, develop a detailed public realm scheme and support the project’s delivery.

The project area stretches from Newhall Street in the east to Queensway in the west, bordering on Steelhouse Lane and Colmore Row in the south and Great Charles Street in the north.

Planned upgrades include a new station approach, improved cycle access, reduced street clutter and lower congestion.

Urban realm design, landscape architecture, transportation, architecture, highway engineering, civil engineering, lighting design, cost management and contract administration services will all be required.

A 20-year masterplan for the area – planned to deliver 200,000m² of new office space and 10,000 new jobs – is expected to be officially adopted by the council later this month.

The deadline for applications is 7 December.
