Thanet District Council is seeking multi-disciplinary design teams of new social housing schemes in Kent

Planned to complete in 2018, the project will create 17 new dwellings across seven sites in Margate, Minster and St Peter’s.

The contract – worth up to £120,000 – is divided into three lots and bidders may apply for a maximum of two lots each.

The tranches cover Margate (two units, one site), Minster (three units, one site) and St Peter’s (twelve units, five sites).

According to the contract notice: ‘All developments are proposed on brownfield sites with historic or existing council garage block use. One site awaits formal notification of Planning Consent – granted 18 May 2016 – all others have historic consents which are due to expire between March and June 2017.

‘Various designs require minor modification and resubmission to Planning within the stipulated timelines. Timescales for delivery of revised planning drawings and full detailed design are tight and require full attention throughout the summer months.’

The council owns around 3,000 properties on the island all of which are managed by East Kent Housing.

David Chipperfield Architects completed the £17.4 million Turner Contemporary (pictured) in Margate five years ago.

The deadline for applications is 20 June.
