Hunt begins for architect to revamp Stirling’s St Andrews icon

  • Comment

The University of St Andrews is seeking an architect to renovate its iconic James Stirling-designed Andrew Melville Hall

The winning practice will be appointed as part of a project manager-led design team to overhaul the Brutalist accommodation block.

Designed by James Stirling in 1967, the building was constructed from prefabricated concrete modules and required extensive remedial work in the decades following completion.

The Grade A-listed structure – which overlooks the famous St Andrews Links golf course – is home to around 250 students.

A civil and structural engineer, mechanical and electrical engineer, cost consultant and CDM coordinator will also be appointed.

The deadline for requests to participate is 30 October.
