Trafford Council is recruiting a masterplanner to overhaul the Regent Road Car Park in Altrincham
The winning team will draw up a feasibility study and masterplan for the prominent council-owned site close to Altringham Railway Station.
The project aims to support town centre regeneration, boost car parking spaces and ‘make better use’ of the site’s potential assets.
Both the car park and a nearby former bowling green will be included in the study alongside land at 16-24 The Downs owned by local developer Consensus Property.
According to the contract notice: ‘Trafford council requires a consultancy partner to advise on a masterplanning exercise to incorporate Regent Road car park and ex-bowling green land to provide a clear deliverable option for the future of the site that meets the objectives of the council and Consensus Property.’
The developer – working with locally-based Tsiantar Architects – won planning for ten residential units on The Downs site last month.
Founded in 1290 as a market town, Altringham is today popular with affluent commuters working in Manchester which is around 13 km north east. Town centre landmarks include the historic Market Cross and Old Market Place (pictured).
Earlier this year Stephenson Studio and SimpsonHaugh and Partners won planning for a £15 million development – featuring a leisure centre, retail and 59 apartments – next to a Tesco superstore nearby.
The deadline for applications is 12noon on 10 August.
