The Candle Community Trust is seeking an architect to extend its headquarters in west Dublin

The project will create a 300m² new wing connected to the trust’s existing 520m² base in Ballyfermot.

Set up in 1978 – the charity provides physical, emotional, intellectual, social, and spiritual support to young people facing a range of challenges.

Therapeutic and counselling services currently delivered on the dedicated 0.5 hectare site will be expanded once the extension is complete.

According to the brief: ‘The trust now seeks tenders for architect-led design teams to develop the brief in consultation with the trust and to manage the design and project process through to construction and completion.

‘A balance between integration and the independent identity of those therapeutic devices is required and in depth consultation will be required from the appointed design team. The project will advance in line with the funding availability.’

London’s Relational Urbanism won a contest organised by the Irish Architecture Foundation for a new £370,000 play space in nearby Le Fanu Park last year.

The winning team will develop the expansion scheme from preliminary design to handover. Architectural, civil and structural engineering, building services, quantity surveying, fire sfety and landscape consultancy services will all be required.

The deadline for applications is 1pm on 8 August.
