Highlands and Islands Enterprise (HIE) is looking for a design team to deliver a 1,500m² life sciences centre in Inverness
The winner of the £107,000 contract will draw up plans for the facility to occupy Plot 8 on HIE’s Inverness Campus development next to the A9.
The 87ha development, masterplanned by 7N Architects, will create a regional centre for innovation and life-long learning, creating 1,300 jobs.
Landmark buildings already completed on the campus include BDP’s £50 million home for Inverness College, which opened last summer, and an 84m-span bridge by 7N.
A £2.2 million life sciences building on the site by Threesixty Architecture won a British Council of Offices (BCO) award earlier this year.
Proposals for the latest life sciences complex must conform to sustainability, material, lighting and parking standards, as set out in 7N’s campus design guide.
Plot 8, which overlooks a railway line and the West Seafield retail park, has been earmarked for residential and business uses in a ‘woodland setting’ with buildings up to three storeys in height.
Bidders must hold at least £10 million of employers liability insurance, £10 million of public liability insurance and £5 million of professional indemnity insurance.
The chosen multidisciplinary team will complete a topographical study of the plot and develop the scheme up to RIBA Stage 4. Alongside architectural services both civil and structural engineering services, and mechanical and electrical engineering services will also be required.
The deadline for applications is 12 noon on 21 October.
