The City of Vienna is planning a design competition for a £47 million overhaul of its municipal museum
The Vienna Museum – known locally as the Wien Museum – covers art and local history and is located in the prestigious Karlsplatz district of the Austrian capital.
Designed by architect Oswald Haerdtl in 1959, the building’s permanent exhibitions have not been renovated for more than 30 years.
The City of Vienna is now planning to restore the existing 7,000m² museum and create a new 5,000m² extension.
A design competition is expected to be announced in January next year.
