Milan has launched an international competition for a £2.8 million urban park on an inner city road and railway overpass next to Milano Porta Garibaldi train station
The City of Milan-backed project will create a new public space on the concrete ‘Cavalcavia Bussa’ bridge which currently features a road and car park.
The Italian city’s new pedestrianised area is expected to be a multifunctional space for social, cultural and recreational activities.
Ten projects will be shortlisted during the anonymous two-stage competition and the winner will receive £30,000.
Two prizes of £2,500 each are available for the second and third place entries. A further seven prizes worth £1,200 each will also be awarded.
Open to registered professional architects and engineers, the competition’s official language is Italian but entries are also permitted in English.
The deadline for submissions is 17 June.
