Contest for Lithuanian viewing platform opens

  • Comment

The Lithuanian town of Anyksciai has launched a design competition for a new viewing platform and cycle path

The project will deliver a new observation area overlooking the historic town alongside a cycle and pedestrian path on the right bank of the River Sventoji.

Connections to existing public realm infrastructure on the left back of the river – which is crossed by two bridges in the town centre – will also be required.

First mentioned in 1440, the town is now a popular ski resort and has a population of around 12,000.

Landmarks include the church of St Matthias (pictured) which features the tallest spire in the country.

The winner will receive around £2,400 and a second place prize of £2,000 and third place prize worth around £1,600 are also available.

The competition language is Lithuanian and the deadline for submitting projects is 1pm on 24 May.
