V&A Dundee, Forgotten Spaces and University of Essex: The inside track on this week’s competitions
The AJ’s first weekly competition tips column starts with a bang with the first major civic competitions of 2010; the V&A at Dundee, a new centre of design for Scotland on Dundee’s waterfront (see site map above). The £47million project is planned to open in 2014. Expressions of interest due 15.02.10.
Another potential blockbuster is the International Centre for Democracy, Peace and Human Rights in Colchester. The Universityof Essex wants to create a world class building that will bring together its humanities departments. Budget is estimated at ‘approximately £5million’, with required professional indemnity the same figure. Although be warned: the client is looking the client is looking for a designer with ‘experience of fund-raising.’ Register interest by 1.02.10
As well Forgotten Spaces’ smaller practices and students may also be interested in Blackpool Council’s recent OJEU looking to urgently appoint a lead designer and design team for its Central library redevelopment project. Expressions of interest for the Big Lottery Community Libraries Funded project are due in 23.1.2010.
