Redevelopment of Hereford Buttermarket and a wayfinding strategy for the University of Salford – the inside track on this week’s most promising competitions
The RIBA is organising a two-stage competition for the redevelopment of Hereford’s historic Buttermarket, which opened in 1860. The emphasis is on redesigning the interior of the Grade II-listed building, encouraging the ‘evening economy’. Interested parties can attend a site visit on 21 April and the registration deadline is 19 May.
The University of Salford is looking for a landscape architect to provide ‘architectural and environmental input into the development of phase one of [its] approved masterplan’. The chosen consultant will be required to develop a wayfinding strategy and produce a palette of materials to create a distinct identity for all public realm works in the university. The deadline for receipt of tenders or requests to participate is 12pm on 16 April.
Further afield is the international competition to design a new civic centre for Miami, with a top prize of $3,000. The urban centre will occupy no more than 115,000m2 on a determined perimeter at Bayside Park. The deadline for registration is 14 April.
