The Satellite Applications Catapult is seeking an architect to design a £2.4 million innovation centre at the Westcott Venture Park in Buckinghamshire

The winner of the estimated £20,000 contract will draw up plans for a new modular, two-storey structure featuring offices, meeting rooms and light industrial workshops

The project, planned to complete in late 2019, will deliver a 1,200m² innovation centre on the 265ha business park which occupies the site of a former RAF airfield between Aylesbury and Bicester and specialises in space propulsion and environmental engineering.

The competition brief says the winning tenderer ‘will be expected to deliver the RIBA stage 2 concept design of the new 1,200m² Innovation centre. It is proposed that the building be constructed using a modular/off-site system and the concept design must allow for this to be tendered competitively.

‘Tenderers will be asked to demonstrate their experience of delivering similar projects, suitability of their proposed team, lessons learnt from similar projects and details of their programme and organisation structure. The building shall be designed to accommodate light industrial/assembly workshops, meeting rooms, open plan collaborative working spaces and private offices across its two storeys.’

The Satellite Applications Catapult is based in the Electron Building on the Harwell Oxford Campus near Didcot in Oxfordshire. It was created five years ago as an independent innovation and technology company tasked with driving economic growth through the exploitation of space.

Westcott Venture Park is a major centre for the development space propulsion technology and is the planned home of the UK’s new £4 million National Propulsion Test Facility.

Bids for the new 1,200m² innovation centre will be evaluated 35 per cent on experience, 30 per cent on staffing and management, and 35 per cent on cost.

The deadline for applications is midday, 2 November.
