Bournemouth Borough Council is recruiting a masterplanner for a major new commercial district in south-east Dorset
The multidisciplinary team chosen for the estimated £40,000-to-£60,000 contract will draw up plans for a new world-class business location focusing on health and wellbeing for the local authority, which purchased the plot two years ago.
The project will transform a prominent 6ha site, which is set to receive a new junction with the A338 Wessex Way on the eastern fringes of the popular coastal resort town.
In its brief, the council says it requires ‘a multidisciplined supplier to produce a masterplan of the Wessex Fields Business Park. The preference would be to attract one or more large-scale office relocation or start-up from a globally recognised enterprise alongside a building capable of providing serviced office space and sites for medium-sized companies.’
Wessex Fields is a large area of undeveloped land neighbouring the Royal Bournemouth General Hospital, close to suburban Iford and Christchurch. Neighbouring uses include a law courts, nursing home, four-star hotel and several financial services businesses.
The latest project aims to deliver a landmark, high-tech office development providing up to 2,000 new jobs in the local area.
The scheme aims to deliver a ‘green and well-connected working environment’ featuring tall blocks with large open spaces and high-quality public realm. Pedestrian and cycle links and a business hub, café, crèche, and small shops will also be required.
The tender is currently due to be relaunched on 26 September with a revised application deadline of 26 October.
