Shannon Commercial Properties is recruiting a design team for three new commercial buildings
The team chosen for the estimated £600,000 contract will draw up plans for three flexible business premises on a 5ha plot within the Shannon Free Zone industrial park next to Shannon Airport.
The project will deliver a new 5,600m² building capable of being sub-divided into three 1,850m² unitsm along with a separate 3,065m² building in the first phase. The second phase includes an additional 3,700m² building capable of being divided into two 1,850m² blocks.
In its brief, Shannon Commercial Enterprises, which is the property wing of Shannon Airport, says its strategy ‘is to design and gain planning approval for both the phase 1 and phase 2 developments as outlined below with associated provision for car parking and ancillary site development works as well construction procurement and management for the phase 1 buildings only, along with the provision of a full-time resident engineer for the construction period.’
It adds that the buildings will be ‘multifunctioning and adaptable to modern business uses (eg advanced technology, manufacturing, distribution, aviation)’.
Shannon Airport is the third busiest airport in Ireland and features the country’s longest runway – capable of landing the Space Shuttle. The Shannon Free Zone industrial park was created on land neighbouring the airport in the late 1950s.
The 265ha industrial estate was recently remasterplanned by RKD Architects, and features a mix of low-rise industrial units and modern office blocks. Many of the older units dating from the 1950s and 1960s are now no longer fit for purpose and largely unused.
The deadline for applications is midday, 1 June.
