The London Institute of Medical Sciences (LMS) is recruiting a multidisciplinary design team for its new multimillion pound headquarters in Shepherds Bush
The winner of the estimated £4 million contract will draw up plans for an advanced research complex to house the recently renamed biomedical institute, previously known as the Medical Research Council Clinical Sciences Centre.
The project, planned to complete in 2021, will create a new base for the LMS featuring Containment Level 2 laboratories, In-vitro imaging areas and Core Biotechnology Services (CBS) facilities within the Hammersmith Hospital campus (pictured) overlooking Wormwood Scrubs in west London.
In a statement, the institute said: ‘The winner of the contract will produce the design for a cutting-edge research facility to provide the home for the London Institute of Medical Sciences, which will include highly specialist areas, such as imaging and CBS facilities.
‘This exciting project is a joined effort of the Medical Research Council and Imperial College London to increase the collaboration between the scientists and clinicians of the organisations providing the link between fundamental research and clinical application.’
The LMS was founded by the Medical Research Council in 1994 to promote science in clinical environments, and aims to improve understanding of disease to deliver better diagnoses and treatments.
It is currently spread across four separate buildings within the Hammersmith Hospital campus on Du Cane Road, which is part of the Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust and was formerly known as the Military Orthopaedic Hospital.
The deadline for applications is 2pm, 26 April.
