Creative Youth Network (CYN) is on the hunt for an architect to overhaul Bristol’s Grade II-listed Bridewell Island Magistrates Courts
The winning team will transform the deteriorating 5,600m² building into a new youth centre featuring arts facilities, a skate park, climbing area and education facilities.
Planned to complete in 2019, the £5 million project will also conserve and repair the 1880s structure which is currently in a ‘very poor condition after years of neglect’.
Stride Treglown completed a £5 million overhaul of a disused neighbouring fire station for the same charity three years ago.
Known as ‘The Station’, the 3,600m² facility features a 250-seat theatre, music studios and artists’ workshops.
The appointed architect-le design team will develop CYN’s latest project from RIBA Stage 1 to 7. A structural engineer, services consultant, environmental consultant and cost consultant will also be included in the winning team.
The design fee is expected to be worth up to £700,000 and the deadline for requests to participate is 5pm on 22 April.
