Architect sought for Naas Town Hall library conversion

  • Comment

Kildare County Council is recruiting an architect to transform Naas Town Hall into a public library

The £3 million project will create the library inside the Classical-style building on the Irish town’s North Main Street.

The detached three-storey building was originally built as the town’s jail in the late 18th century, and converted into a town hall in 1904. It now features on Ireland’s Record of Protected Structures.

The latest project will deliver a new ‘accessible, attractive and welcoming’ library inside the landmark complex, featuring an exhibition space, meeting rooms, a children’s library and shelving for 27,000 volumes.

The new facility will also include an office suite, business hub for local start-ups, study area, staff facilities, kitchen, toilets and new signage.

Up to five architect-led integrated design teams will be shortlisted, and the winner will deliver the project, which is planned to complete in 2019.

The deadline for applications is 12 noon on 1 December.
