  • Comment

The Hay Castle Trust is seeking an architect is sought to overhaul Hay-on-Wye’s ruined Norman castle

The £4 million project will create a new ‘economically and culturally vibrant centre for arts and education’ inside the historic fortress.

Planned to complete in 2018, the scheme will also include major structural repairs, specialist conservation and contemporary extensions and alterations.

The site within the Brecon Beacons National Park includes a Scheduled Ancient Monument, a Grade I-listed building and other Grade II-listed structures.

The regeneration is expected to ‘complement and support’ the Powys market town – famous for its annual literary festival – and entice more visitors from around the world.

The winning team will initially develop the scheme up to RIBA Stage 3 and then, subject to funding approval up to completion.

The deadline for requests to participate is 27 October.
