Caernarfon Harbour Trust is on the lookout for an architect for its ‘island site’ regeneration
Planned to complete in 2020, the project will overhaul a series of disused structures on the Gwynedd port town’s waterfront.
Located on Slate Quay, the former industrial buildings are currently fenced off due to their deteriorating condition and expected to be transformed into a flexible space for creative businesses.
The harbour – constructed during the nineteenth century – was originally used for exporting slate from local quarries and now features a car park for visitors of nearby Caernarfon Castle.
Earlier this month, Caernarfon’s Galeri arts centre also announced it was seeking an architect for a new £4 million extension featuring two cinemas.
The winner of the latest £650,000 ‘island site’ contract will develop the scheme from RIBA stage 1 to 7.
The deadline for requests to participate is 1pm on 18 September.
