New College Nottingham is seeking an architect for a new 30,000m² city centre skills hub
The proposed £60 million project will deliver a new city centre campus for the prestigious further and higher education provider which will merge with the city’s Central College in December.
Hosting up to 4,000 full-time students – the new building will be constructed on a prominent derelict site east of Nottingham’s Broadmarsh Shopping Centre.
The scheme will allow the newly combined college to reduce its total number of operational sites and boost its city centre presence.
According to the contract notice: ‘The new campus will not only replace outdated teaching and learning facilities at both colleges but will enable the further education partners to respond directly to the needs of local employers by supplying the skills required for Nottingham’s key employment and growth sectors.
‘The hub will provide an environment to promote and develop entrepreneurial behaviours, career aspirations and transparent progression pathways into employment within fit for purpose facilities that are of industry standard.’
CPMG and landscape architect Influence have already completed an early masterplan for the proposed Canal Street facility which will focus on science, technology, engineering and maths.
Initial designs recommend a six-storey building divided into two blocks surrounded by landscaped gardens and squares.
The winning team will also be required to assist the college in its ongoing estate rationalisation programme covering various refurbishment projects and new builds.
Documents must be requested by 13 October and the deadline for applications is 12pm on 21 October.
