Waltham Forest Council is seeking an architect for a £500,000 cycle hub in Leyton Jubilee Park
The project will create a new facility for cyclists within the public park by extending an existing council-owned building known as ‘The Cottage’.
The enlarged structure on Marsh Lane - around 1.5km from Hopkins’ Olympic Velodrome - will feature changing rooms, a bicycle maintenance workshop, storage racks, an education centre for safety classes and a café.
Eton Manor Athletics Club - which currently occupies The Cottage - will share the facilities with the new hub.
According to the contract notice, the scheme will ‘help capture cycling enthusiasm across the Borough [and create] a lively social space to meet and consume great food and drink.’
The winner of the £30,000 contract will initially develop the scheme up to RIBA Stage 2.
A concept design, outline proposal, structural design, building services systems, outline specifications, preliminary cost information and high level business plan will all be required.
The deadline for expressions of interest is 4 December.
