Sports charity Fusion Lifestyle is recruiting an architect to refurbish the Grade II-listed Broomhill Pool lido in Ipswich
The winner of the £200,000 contract will restore the Art Deco landmark which first opened in 1938 and has been derelict for the past fourteen years.
Backed by the Broomhill Pool Trust, the project will restore the existing entrance kiosk, grandstand, changing rooms, clock tower and landscaped open areas.
A new build fitness suite and café will also be delivered alongside a permanent exhibition focussing on the site’s history.
According to the brief: ‘We seek a design team who shares our vision and upholds our service standards, ensuring our members experience is an enjoyable one.
‘We seek someone who will work with us in developing a detailed affordable design for refurbishing Broomhill Lido to create a world class facility.’
Broomhill Pool was listed in 2001 following a campaign by the Twentieth Century Society. The structure is one of twelve Grade II-listed lidos in England and the only 50-metre outdoor pool in East Anglia.
Founded in 2000, Fusion Lifestyle now operates more than 60 pools and has restored a number of historic lidos including facilities in Brixton and Tottenham.
Participating design teams must have prior experience of community engagement, pool projects and refurbishing a 50-metre lido. Bids will be assessed 70 per cent on quality and 30 per cent on cost.
The deadline for applications is 6pm on 7 June.
