Many moons ago I had the pleasure of spending a few days with Roger Scruton, at a 21st Century Trust's seminar. I enjoyed his sharp mind, and indeed also his sharp tongue. I did not enjoy some of his views.
As architecture is about space, light, joy and social and environmental responsibility, and not about 'beauty' or styles', it is my view that a neutral advocate would serve us better.
Tell me this is a 1 April, misguided, joke! Architecture is not about styles. It is about light and space and joy, not stylistic bullshit ...
We do need to educate people like this man.
Well put Andrew. Not much to add...
I join in support of protecting this building, which I knew well.
In total agreement with Anna on this. I had the opportunity to see the building inside and outside two weeks ago, and was not impressed in a positive way. It winning the SP is thus a big surprise.
