Extra low U-value Kalzip roof system

Kalzip has developed a new dual-insulation roof system that achieves U-values as low as 0.09 W/m²K

This technically proven, low U-value roof system is extremely cost effective and utilises the combined benefits of two complementary types of insulation materials - mineral fibre quilt and Kalzip Insulation 23 high performance rigid polyisocyanurate (PIR) board. Combining these two insulation material enables a significantly greater overall thermal resistance to be achieved compared with using just a single layer of mineral fibre of the same thickness.

The new low U-value system is based upon standard Kalzip standing seam roof build-up configurations that have been further developed to comply with anticipated changes to Part L of the Building Regulations due in 2010 and to satisfy the ever-tightening design limits on thermal performance levels demanded for modern construction.

Closely linked with the Building Regulations is the Code for Sustainable Homes which represents best current practice for the construction of residential dwellings. It is generally expected that a similar code will be extended to non-dwellings, accelerating the drive for all new buildings to become zero carbon rated by 2019. Government definitions for what zero carbon actually means are currently out for industry consultation.

The effect of climate change and the increasing demand for sustainable construction are major concerns for society and so reducing CO2 emissions and energy consumption levels is fundamental to attaining a carbon-free future. With buildings currently estimated to account for the production of about half the UK’s CO2 emissions, reducing heat loss by continually improving U-values is a vital contributing factor in achieving greater energy efficiency.

Kalzip’s low U-value system can be used with liner, liner-deck, structural deck and timber deck constructions to cater for virtually any new build or refurbishment application. Even more sustainable low U-value roof systems are available with renewable (Kalzip AluPlusSolar) and green roof (Kalzip Nature Roof) technologies.
