CPD: AJ Specification Live - Lighting

This CPD module follows the AJ Specification Live event in October. It aims to give architects the opportunity gain CPD credits for the knowledge gained during the five presentations.

The focus of this month’s AJ Specification Live was lighting. Please find an audio recording from the event. Answers to these questions can also be found in this month’s AJ Specification magazine.

Part 1: Patrick Berning, Architect, Rick Mather Architects (2.14)

Upon graduating from the University of Oregon in 2007 Patrick rejoined Rick Mather Architects to work on the Ashmolean Museum in Oxford and the redevelopment of the Ashmolean Egypt galleries. Patrick has recently finished working on the delivery of a new extension to the Lyric Hammersmith, which is the culmination of a 15 year masterplan for the theatre; and is currently Project Architect for a public realm strategy for the Spine at the University of Lancaster, which will create a series of activated spaces improving connectivity across the campus.

Part 2: Luisa Scardovi, Senior Lighting Designer, Deltalight (10.58)

Luisa Scardovi

Through Luisa’s work experience alongside architects and lighting designers on high-end residential, retail and commercial projects, Luisa constantly looks at her architectural background to find inspiration, understand each project and its relations with both natural and artificial light.

Luisa talks about lighting concepts and what to consider when approaching lighting design.

Part 3:Tim Greatrex, Owner, Tim Greatrex Architects (26.34)

Tim Greatrex

Tim’s studio is currently working on a range of projects from residential to exhibition design and commercial / retail commissions. Tim joins us to talk us through the House of Vans project.

Part 4: Benz Roos, Senior Designer, Speirs + Major (49.26)

Benz Roos

Benz has worked on a number of projects including Beauty and Power Exhibition for the Wallace Collection, Yas Island Retail and Greenwich Peninsula. Benz spoke to the audience about specifying luminaires and how different light can be utilised to inform materials and create atmospheric spaces.

Part 5: David Green, Practice Partner, SimpsonHaugh  (1.00.46)

David Green

David has particular experience in the adaptation of existing buildings and recently led the design team on the transformation of Manchester City Council’s administrative offices in the Grade II* listed Manchester Town Hall Extension which David talks us through.
