Interior surfaces specialist Altro has launched a design-and-cut flooring service so that compliance with the Disability Discrimination Act (DDA) is not a compromise. Under the DDA, potential hazards require high-visibility boundaries, highlighting their position to disabled users. Altro Art makes it easy to comply with the DDA rules, while encouraging imaginative design. The new service allows specifiers, end users and flooring contractors to create their own personalised design or pick from
the broad range already on offer. Altro’s experts will then work with the customer and the flooring
contractor to ensure all requirements are realised effectively on site – whether in a hospital, school
or retail premises. Altro Art allows specifiers to choose from a wide range of flooring with a varied assortment of Light Reflectance Value (LRV) ratings – the proportion of light reflected by a particular surface colour. To comply with the DDA, a minimum LRV of 30 must be maintained between contrasting floors to create a clear visual boundary and identify potential hazards to those with visual
impairments. Altro’s designs comfortably meet and exceed the DDA requirements, with minimal
impact on design.
