200 Aldersgate Street, EC1 by MoreySmith

[Drawings + project data] Two-wing, 21-storey office building located in the heart of the City of London undergoes extensive refurbishment, including the redesign of the front elevation

The front facade, which comprised a stepped glass cascade, has been replaced by a double-height glazed podium section with glazed cladding above. The structure and internal support framework have been minimised, with the glass supported internally by simple stainless steel bowstring trusses.

This maximises natural light within the business lounge and gives a transparent appearance, allowing views into the building from the street. The podium also enables the building to be successfully multi-tenanted.

The refurbishment also included two large receptions and lobby areas, a cycle store for 220 bikes with shower and changing facilities and, on the first floor, a new business lounge and café which now link the two blocks.
