Artist David Rickard and architect Germano Di Chello have revealed their competition-winning sculpture at Snape Maltings

The pair defeated Shiro Studio and sculptor Yonatan Vinitsky to win the commission back in October 2015.

Named ‘Myriad’, the £45,000 installation responds to a brief which called for a sculpture that ‘offers a vantage point across the marshes at Snape and a new view over this flat and beautiful landscape’.

Constructed from stainless steel the installation suspends mirrors above visitors’ heads reflecting views of the surrounding landscape.

The sculpture joins other works on the Aldeburgh Music complex which includes work by Henry Moore and Barbara Hepworth.

Constructed in the 1800s, the cluster of buildings was originally used for malting barley for the brewing industry but was shut down in the 1960s.

The buildings overlooking the River Alde were later converted into a concert venue for the Aldeburgh Music Festival and the complex now features several shops and restaurants.

Haworth Tompkins has completed several projects at the former maltings including a £450,000 café, a £6.5 million residential scheme and a £5.5 million creative campus.

The firm’s £155,000 Dovecote Studio rehearsal room at Snape won the 2010 AJ Small Project Award.

Rickard and Di Chello’s completed structure opened to the public earlier this month.
