OMA completes Rotterdam Timmerhuis

  • Comment

OMA has taken the wraps off this mixed-use scheme in Rotterdam

The 48,400m2 scheme houses Rotterdam’s municipal offices and the Museum Rotterdam alongside housing, shops, parking, and groud floor public space.

The building was commissioned by the City of Rotterdam, which now occupies its office space. It sits alongside the city’s 1953 municipal building and the walls of this create the interior walls of the new scheme.

Commenting on the scheme OMA’s Reinier de Graaf, said: ‘We are very proud of Timmerhuis. Rather than adding another grand statement to Rotterdam’s ecology of successive architectural convictions, the typical mass of Timmerhuis seeks to subtly negotiate between the architectures of the buildings surrounding it.’
