Emerging practice J Foster Architects unveils revamped Highgate home

Bespoke joinery brings a common palette to the rooms in J Foster Architects’ £100,000 transformation of a terraced house in Highgate, north London

The emerging North London-based studio has opened up and modernised the 99m2 19th century house.

The project has created a flexible open-plan living space, wet room and study on the ground floor while retaining the stair and first floor layout.

A private courtyard has also been created in order to bring natural light into the enlarged living space.

Architect’s view

By opening up the ground floor in its entirety and inserting full-height folding doors in the rear facade, we were able to visually connect to the new courtyard space.

Increased natural light gives the impression of an extended living space, and with the doors fully open - the volume effectively doubles and seamlessly flows to the outside room.

Bespoke joinery is used throughout the project to maximise storage and bring a common palette to the bedrooms and living spaces.
