Cottrell & Vermeulen unwraps timber sixth form centre

  • Comment

Cottrell & Vermeulen has completed this new sixth form centre at Streatham and Clapham High School in South London

FLOOR PLANSKETCH

The first phase in a larger regeneration plan for the independent girls’ school’s Abbotswood Road campus, the scheme provides a new sixth form block within a rooftop extension to the existing school.

The scheme includes common and study spaces which are connected by a spine of classrooms, offices and science laboratory.

New and extended stair towers connect the sixth form centre with the rest of the school and incorporate new plant areas and a new lift.

The new spaces feature glazed curtain walling, exposed cross-laminated timber panels, windows mullions and cross-columns, and an overhanging roof to minimise solar glare.

Later phases of the scheme will provide a new-build extension to house a new dining hall, school extension, and reception.
