The Bank of Russia has unveiled a commemorative 100 rouble note that features Populous’ 2014 Winter Olympic main stadium
Launched a 100 days before the start of the Winter Games the 100 rouble note features the Populous-designed Fisht Stadium in Sochi. The 45,000-seater stadium will host the Olympic opening and closing ceremonies and will be used as a venue for FIFA World Cup in 2016 before becoming the home venue for a local football team.
Twenty-million of the blue 100 rouble notes, which are worth £1.94, will be produced.
The building becomes the second Olympic stadium to appear on a bank note after Herzog and de Meuron’s Bird’s Nest stadium was featured on the 10 Yuan note to commemorate the 2008 Bejing Games.
