Will Alsop has been appointed Professor of Architecture at Canterbury School of Architecture

The enfant terrible of British architecture will join the staff at the University of the Creative Arts in September, teaching both Part 1 and 2 students.

His work includes the Stirling Prize-winning Peckham Public Library, and teaching at Vienna’s Technical University.

A ‘very excited’ Alsop said: ‘[I’ve] got to know and like the school, its staff and students in recent years, especially as the architecture students are working alongside fine artists at the UCA Canterbury campus - exactly as it should be.’

The school which is ranked 39 out of 45 in The Guardian’s league table of architecture schools, celebrates 60 years of RIBA validation this year.

Head of the school, Allan Atlee said: ‘Alsop’s unique and inspiring approach will be felt across the campus making it one of the most stimulating places to study and develop as a budding architect, designer or artist.’

Simon Ofield-Kerr, vice chancellor of the UCA added: ‘This is an exciting appointment for UCA. Alsop is one of the most interesting architects practising today and I am thrilled that our architecture, interior design and fine art students will be able to learn from him and work with him during their studies at UCA.

‘We are committed to offering our students access to some of the world’s most important practitioners, and Will joining our professoriate is further proof of this commitment. I also think it’s going to be great fun for both our students and staff.’
