Allies and Morrison lands more work at White City

  • Comment

Imperial College has appointed Allies and Morrison to design the southern part of its new campus at White City, the latest in a series of wins for the practice in the west London district

The new 9.3ha campus site south of the Westway will be dedicated to research and innovation in science, engineering, medicine and business.

Allies and Morrison is already working on the £40 million Michael Uren Biomedical Engineering Research Hub on the northern section of the campus, which is being masterplanned by Aukett Swanke.

In June, Stanhope appointed Allies and Morrison to design three office blocks on the nearby BBC Media Village site in White City. The AJ100 practice is also working with the developer and its funding partners Mitsui and AIMCo on the refurbishment of a number of existing buildings within the emerging 7ha business district, now known as White City Place.

Paul Eaton, partner at Allies and Morrison, said: ‘The White City campus [for Imperial College] is an internationally significant project for the academic and business communities and we’re excited to be given a key role in shaping it.

‘The campus will also play a critical part in the wider regeneration of White City. Our extensive experience of working on other projects in the area will ensure we’re best placed to support Imperial College London as it looks to make the campus an integrated part of the local community.’

As well as masterplanning the northern part of the site, Aukett Swanke completed Wood Lane Studios on this section of the campus – providing apartments for 600 students – in 2012, and is currently working on The Molecular Sciences Research Hub.

PLP also completed the I-HUB, a workspace dedicated to turning research into commercial products, in November and is working on a 192-flat residential tower on the northern site.

Two further buildings on the northern site have yet to be appointed an architect.

The White City campus is part of Imperial College London’s 2015-2020 strategy.
