A great loss. Such an inspiring person.
Congratulation to the winners. The AJ! there were 47 entries and 14 shortlisted schemes. Could you please list them?
The reality is that this pledge will go unnoticed and will not achieve its goals. First of all the timing is wrong. There are elections in Israel next month and I think that whether Jarvis Cocker will preform or not is the last thing on people's mind at the moment. The other issue is the list. With all due respect to my fellow architects, It is rather dull. The reason why the campaign 'sun city' was a success was that it was a global pledge with very well known artists. I myself bought the record that came out. The other reason is that you can not escape the labelling of antisemitic or self hating Jew when you criticise Israel. I can't explain why it is such but that's the fundamental reason why it will fail. No successful artist will want to be labeled as such. Only direct dialogue with support from the global community will bring everlasting peace to the region. If Netanyahu wins again we can all kiss this wish goodbye.
Well said Dan
Good decision by the RIBA president. Now the RIBA can concentrate on it's objectives:
"...the general advancement of Civil Architecture, and for promoting and facilitating the acquirement of the knowledge of the various arts and sciences connected therewith..."
It has been 15 years since a UK architect designed the pavilion! WHY? How about a little known UK practice!
I feel compelled too Lior and Yaron:
"RIBA should put the same amount of energy to promote change within our outdated and dysfunction planning system in the UK instead of fighting foreign wars it does not understand and can't possibly win".
Great to see these photos, especially as I was part of the original competition team at DCA back in 2000.
Excuse me Sara " their women raped"!!!! I can assure you that the Israeli army doesn't rape women. You better get you facts right before unleashing very harmful and dangerous use of words. And I disagree, the situation is very complicated. I don't think we will live to see peace in this region. I just hope the next generation won't make the same mistakes and realise early on that there is only one solution. Diplomacy, making concessions, talking, avoiding revenge and ending the occupation. To achieve this you need strong leaders and courage. None of which the current Israeli Government not the Palestinians have. Peace.
The situation is Israel and Gaza is appalling, and both sides should be condemned for their actions. The only solution is a diplomatic one with the support of the UN. BUT, why the Israeli Architect’s Association? WHY the double standards? Where were you my fellow architects when Assad decided (and still doing) to slaughter his own people? Where were you when Putin started his mini war? Why is it easier to go after Israel than Syria, Russia or other countries? In case you need a lead here are some contact details:
