JANE DUNCAN's comments
So very pleased! The RIBA will have a thoughtful and considerate leader, and the profession will have a great advocate for social mobility with Alan Jones.
The judging panel also included me!
Fantastic news Kirsten! Such a good choice. A real role model for the profession.
Perhaps the RIBA should sent local authorities either a hard copy or a link to their excellent publication " Design Competitions Guidance for Clients".
I am sure that the local authorities mean very well, but do not have professional/client adviser help to decide whether or how to run a design competition.
We will surely miss Christine, and wish her well in the new post but I am delighted that you will be her successor, and look forward to working with you over the next few years.
I am absolutely delighted to hear this news, and hope that the re-brand brings vast rewards.
The news of a slight rise in registrations is of course heartening, but the core issue is retention of these architects. Attrition rates are still deplorable, glass ceilings still exist, and practices need to put in place people and work/life friendly cultures to retain the best employees. Guidance on it's way from RIBA.
I hope that the RIBA will encourage Nicky Morgan in her new role to take a fresh look as soon as possible - to make her mark before the election.
The unfortunate school buildings legacy of her predecessor requires a sharp turn around. It would be sad if this new minister were to be given no time to achieve more than window dressing and electioneering.
Perhaps Mr Gove has actually come to his senses, and sees the considerable value in using great architects?
Stephen Hodder and Peter Oborn have my full support in setting up this working group to help establish a formal set of guidelines for the Institute.
However it is vital that the workings, decisions and outputs from the group are fully transparent, and agreed by Council prior to being formalised. Too much seems to go on behind closed doors, and this is an area which could impact all members.
