ZMMA creates twisted brick farmhouse for developer Crispin Kelly

[FIRST LOOK + PLANS + DATA] ZMMA’s Four Oaks house in Wiltshire was declared the ‘Best Housing Development’ at the Brick Awards last week

Designed from Stephen Taylor Architects’ initial proposal for Crispin Kelly, chief executive of property developer Baylight, ZMMA have created a house with a twist - the linear form of the pitched roof farmhouse has a large ‘kink’ in the centre of the plan.

The ground floor of the 550m² house contains the house’s communal spaces with the sitting and dining rooms opening directly of the entrance hall, which is placed at the centre of the house in the ‘kink’. From this hall a stair leads to three ensuite bedrooms on the first floor with a further two bedrooms placed in the attic.

The house is constructed from bricks that were developed through as ‘elaborate sampling process’ that involved ‘close collaboration between architect, client and manufacturer’, to create ‘brickwork that is bespoke in every sense - size, blend, bond and pointing style’.

Commenting on the Brick Award ZMMA Principal Adam Zombory-Moldovan said: ‘We are delighted to have received this Award, which is a tremendous endorsement for the team, including our project Architect Sacha King, who helped to create Four Oaks. Special thanks go to our Client Crispin Kelly for his huge enthusiasm and ambition for the project.’
