Yorkshire wit

Hawkins\Brown director David Bickle gave an intriguing insight into how the tricky Park Hill revamp was going during a slot at The Urban Regeneration Toolbox conference at the Lowry in Manchester last week. The practice’s relationship with co-designer Studio Egret West, he admitted, was turning out to be quite ‘interesting’. However, Bickle said he had no intention of trying to copy the former Alsop starlets’ flamboyant approach to the redesign of the controversial 60s concrete behemoth in Sheffield. It was more a case, Bickle claimed, of ‘vive la difference’ rather than ‘spot the difference.’ Trés clever, as they say in South Yorkshire.
