Xsite Architecture completes Barnard Castle Box of tricks

Newcastle-based practice Xsite Architecture has completed this WiFi and Bluetooth information hub in Barnard Castle, County Durham

The glass cube, known as The Box, allows downloads to mobile phones, displays local information on plasma screens and will eventually broadcast local radio station podcasts.

Tim Bailey, partner at the practice, said: ‘The Box has changed a space in the town centre, and is designed to change attitudes about the future of Barnard Castle.

He added: ‘Its design shows a multi-faceted glass structure, which makes use of light and reflections, so is a feature both at night and during the daytime.

‘Its purpose is also multi-faceted, as it can be put to many uses by providing a wide range of information.’
