Woods Bagot wins green light for 'layer cake' hotel in Liverpool
The 180-room hotel scheme will revamp the existing Watson building and create a new 10-storey block on the neighbouring site, which currently houses the soon-to-be-demolished Rapid Hardware Paint shop.
Describing the scheme, Stephan Reinke, principal designer behind the project, said: ‘The two [buildings] together will create a fantastic dynamic of "old meets new" as well as a first-class hospitality destination, as part of the overall Liverpool Central Regeneration scheme.
‘The new-build element is an exuberant and dynamically proportioned, rhythmic composition, which at once expresses the historic crossing point while being unashamedly of our time.’
Approved by Liverpool City Council, the development is being backed by joint-venture partners Merepark and Ballymore.
