Video: Sheppard Robson's engineering laboratory for the University of Liverpool

Sheppard Robson has completed this ‘luminous chameleon’ for the University of Liverpool

The building ‘floats’ on top of an existing 1960s block and features a fritted glass facade fitted with LED lighting which can change on demand.

Sitting south of Liverpool’s iconic brutalist Metropolitan Cathedral, the two-storey ‘Active Learning Lab’ houses an engineering laboratory and is part of a larger £19 million scheme whichincludes the refurbishment of four existing buildings and a new entrance foyer - a fully glazed, three-storey extension to the original 1892 red brick Alfred Waterhouse-designed Victorian buildings..

The project has been designed alongside Arup Lighting and officially complete last month (June 2009).
