University of Nottingham
[STUDENT SHOWS 2011] Nottingham puts a strong emphasis the benefits of designing through doing, with a particular focus on designing real, usable buildings rather than taking a more theoretical approach towards architecture
The school is erring towards a slightly more green approach to design, with particular studios focusing on sustainability.
Project themes are wide ranging, from studios looking at sustainable school design, urban manufacturing process, tall buildings, zero-carbon homes and digital fabrication.
The school is a large one and in following their aim to display every student’s work, they have produced a large and vast show. The work is not displayed in an exhibition-like style, rather its feel is more akin to a review pin up and can feel slightly overwhelming.
The students within the Part 2 Tall Buildings studio stand out, with their design for a Passivhaus skyscraper for Manhattan, which came second in the Isover student competition. Laura Mark
