Holcim Awards opens for entries
$2million prize for sustainable projects up for grabs
The international awards celebrate architecture, building and civil engineering, landscape and urban design projects, at the advanced stages of design or early construction stages, with a particular emphasis on sustainability.
There is also a category for ‘next generation’ entrants, which is looking for emerging talent under the age of 30.
The awards are judged against the following five targets:
- Progress: innovation and transferability
- People: ethical standards and social equity
- Planet: environmental quality and resource efficiency
- Prosperity: economic performance and compatibility
- Proficiency: contextual and aesthetic impact
Entries are judged within regions: Europe, North America, Latin America, Africa, Middle East and Asia Pacific, before being put forward for a global prize.
This is the fourth cycle of the competition, which spans three years, from announcement to completion.
The deadline for submissions is 31 March 2014.
Regional prizes will be presented between September and November 2014. The global winners will be awarded in May 2015.
Previous winning projects include an Autonomous Alpine Shelter in Switzerland by Studio Monte Rosa, Dongtan Eco City by Arup, Metropol Parasol in Seville by Jurgen Mayer-Hermann, and a low-impact environmentally-responsive house in Cape Town by Architecture Co-op.
