Monodraught, Breathing Buildings and Sustainable Energy Academy/United House have all been named as finalists for the Ashden Awards 2013

Two ventilation systems and system for retrofitting internal insulation have made the finals of the 2013 Ashden Awards.

Breathing Buildings, a spin-off from Cambridge University has been recognised for their natural ventilation system which minimises energy use whilst improving the air quality of buildings.

Monodraught’s COOL-PHASE low-energy cooling and ventilation system reduces the running costs of buildings as its energy consumption is 90 per cent lower than conventional cooling systems.

The Whole House in Situ Carbon and Energy Reduction Solution (WHISCERS) process developed by Sustainable Energy Academy/United House is also in the running for the award. The system uses laser scanning to measure exact sizes for retrofitting internal wall insulation, allowing the insulation boards to be cut to size and installed quickly and efficiently whilst residents remain in their homes.

WHISCERS

Now in their thirteenth year the awards recognise innovation in local energy solutions that cut carbon in both the UK and the developing world.

The winner will be announced at the Royal Geographical Society on 20 June.
